Caritas Don Bosco School (CDBS) Competes in 2009 LSMS Chess Team Championship

The Caritas Don Bosco School (CDBS) of Binan, Laguna participated in the League of Southern Manila Schools (LSMS) Chess Team event for the first time at the sprawling Brent (Mamplasan,Laguna) campus. The first 4 rounds were conducted last Nov 21,Saturday with 9 teams participating in the High School Division-Boys, 6 teams in the High School Division - Girls and 8 teams in the Grade School Division.

The LSMS is composed of schools from Alabang,Muntinlupa,Las Pinas and Region 4 -mainly Laguna and Batangas. It also features competitions in other sports like basketball, and volleyball.

It is the first time for CDBS to compete in chess, and it was a bit surprising for the GradeSchool to be contending already. The earlier exposures in tournaments such as the MMLDC (Meralco Antipolo) Chess Cup, Golden City Chess Tournament and the ESPL Inter-school chess team tournament, plus the tune-up games and twice a week chess club practices are paying off. This is indeed a good start for the CDBS Chess Club which is also in its first year, and we hope this sparks more interest among the CDBS studentry.

Of note, our revered Pacman's son Emmanuel Pacquiao plays as Board 3 of the Brent - Team B in the Grade School Division. Congratulations to the Pacquaio family and the global Filipino nation for Pacman's record-breaking win!
