I first saw this 12-year old chess talent from Toril, Davao city during the 2008 grand finals of Shell Active Chess Championship in SM Megamall. Of course, I took some pictures of him (posted below).
Just in case you didn’t know, this young lad is one of the four gold medalists in the 10th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships in Hue City, Vietnam. Literatus mined five medals in this international event.
Let’s see his medal haul from the said tournament:
-- One individual gold (standard)
-- Three team silvers (standard, rapid and blitz)
-- One individual bronze (blitz)
For his recent feat, he will be feted the Male of the Year award in the annual So Kim Cheng Sports Awards – making him the city’s youngest ever to receive such distinction.
He is set to wave the Philippine again in another international age-grouper in Singapore this September.
Congratulations, Austin Jacob!! Continue making the Philippines proud!!
