I am “missing” Haridas Pascua and Chardine Cheradee Camacho.Of course, I know that they participated in the recently concluded 2009 RP National Junior Chess Championship.
I know, too, that both of them are the Top Seeds in each respective Division – Haridas in the Boys and Camacho, Girls.
But I know, too, that both of them did not live up to expectations, that’s why I “miss” them.Good enough for Pascua, he finished No.2 out of a 46-player field.
Oh my, bad for Camacho. She ended up sixth in a 21-player field where she’s the only titled player. To be beaten twice in a seven-round tournament by lower-rated opponents made things worse.
Just recently, these two, young Filipino chess talents had been experiencing bitter defeats to much lower-rated players in some tournaments.
What’s happening to these two promising players of the Philippines?
Let’s hope they get back in form again, do what needs to be done, and continue to deliver honors for the Philippines now and in the future.

My friend yan ang isang example na ang chess is alive and kicking in the country..ung 2nd batch ng age-group nila camacho, docena at bernales..ay mga promising din..gaya nila Suede's sister, Judith Pineda of Olongapo ( I heard this small girl is also very bright in academics perennial TOP 1 student ) Cherry Ann Mejia these batch are much younger and needs to be supported by NCFP!!
ibang panahon , ibang lugar madaming factor talaga ang nakaka apekto sa mga players kaya dapat sa susunood piliin ang tamang lugar at hindi yong ok na bastat naidaos lang.
Actually ang daming tournament lately at active na talaga ang chess sa bansa confer before, ang problema schedulling kita naman overlapping kaya na divide ang players...kaya nga sabi ko sana mag usap usap naman kayo..calling NCFP, Dep ED at CHED ...Hello..
Palarong Pambansa 2009 Chess Update..speaking of young talents, in the secondary girls CLRAA defeated NCR in the round 3.
Judith Pineda drew with Jodilyn Fronda at board 1 and Akiko Suede lost to Lorraine Salinas at board 2! we just have too many good young talents now!!
Its means that chess in all walk of life is very active. No matter you are titled, high rated or unrated. All of them has only one goal in each game- to the on top of the board game.
