RP's ladies' chess

We have only four ladies in the Top 100 Filipino players in the October 2008 Rating List released by FIDE namely:

- Catherine Pereña (2210), 76th
- Sheerie Joy Lomibao (2185), 80th
- Shercila Cua (2154), 92nd
- Sherily Cua (2143), 96th

Admittedly, if compared with world’s leading female players, our own lady chess warriors would have to cross a wide bridge (at least in ratings).

Indeed, our beloved Filipina players would look heavy underdogs if matched against the world’s heavy favorites:

- Judit Polgar (2711)
- Humpy Koneru (2618)
- Yifan Hou (2578)
- June Xie (2574)

Statistics shows the not-so-bright status of the country’s production when it comes to ladies’ chess. To date, we can only parade two WIMs. I don't know if there's a Filipina player who has reached the 2400 rating mark.

Something must be done. We have yet to produce a wonder girl in Philippine chess.

Calling all Filipino parents. Be the first blessed parents to have the female version of wizkid GM Wesley So.
